Join me for my monthly Segment – Catholic Pro-Tips From Parents- We will be discussing how to keep Christ in Christmas as a family!
As Advent draws to a close and we prepare for Christmas, let’s focus on the true meaning of the season: the Love of Christ. This is a time to reflect on how Jesus wants to fill our hearts and homes with His love.
Here are some simple ways to stay grounded in faith amidst the busyness of the holidays:
1. Focus on the manger.
Take time to reflect on the King of Kings. Avoid letting secular traditions overshadow the real meaning of Christmas.
- Ideas: Use a play-friendly manger scene for children and display a special one for the family. Read books about the Nativity to share the story of Jesus’ birth.
2. Rely on His love.
Jesus came to show us love, so we can receive it and share it with others. Focusing on His grace helps prevent burnout and keeps our priorities clear.
3. Embrace imperfection.
Christmas doesn’t have to be Pinterest-perfect. Something might not go as planned—respond with love and patience. Prioritize what matters most to your family.
4. Begin with prayer.
Before opening presents, take time to pray together. Invite the Holy Spirit to bless your family and express your love for Christ.
- Family Tradition: Renew your family consecration to the Sacred Heart. Visit www.WelcomeHisHeart.com for resources.
5. Encounter Christ in the Sacraments.
- Reconciliation: Prepare your heart by receiving God’s grace.
- Mass: Choose a time that works for your family. For us, Christmas Eve includes a big dinner, and we attend Mass on Christmas Day.
6. Create Catholic traditions.
Enrich your family’s faith with meaningful customs. Celebrate feast days like the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe by sharing stories of faith and attending Mass. Use books and media that affirm Church teachings.
