Divine Mercy Sunday is Just Days Away!
The Divine Mercy Sunday is a Feast Day you don’t want to miss! Jesus promised to “pour out a whole ocean of graces upon those souls who approach the Fount of My Mercy” (St. Faustina’s Diary, 699) on this day. In honor of Divine Mercy Sunday we thought we’d share some more details about this feast which will fall this year on Sunday, April 8th, 2018.
“I want to grant a complete pardon to the souls that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion on the Feast of My mercy” (1109).
“Whoever approaches the Fountain of Life on this day will be granted complete forgiveness of sins and punishment” (300).
“The soul that will go to Confession and receive Holy Communion will obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment” (699).
The Divine Mercy Novena
In the Diary of St. Faustina, Jesus asked that Divine Mercy Sunday be honored by a Novena to The Divine Mercy. A Novena is nine days of prayer in preparation for a feast, and each day the faithful pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy for different intentions.
“I desire that during these nine days you bring souls to the fountain of My mercy, that they may draw therefrom strength and refreshment and whatever grace they need in the hardships of life, and especially at the hour of death.” (Diary, 1209)
DAY 1 (Good Friday) – All mankind, especially sinners
DAY 2 (Holy Saturday) – The souls of priests and religious
DAY 3 (Easter Sunday) – All devout and faithful souls
DAY 4 (Easter Monday) – Those who don’t believe in Jesus and those who do not yet know Him
DAY 5 (Easter Tuesday) – The souls of separated brethren
DAY 6 (Easter Wednesday) – The meek and humble souls and the souls of children
DAY 7 (Easter Thursday) – The souls who especially venerate and glorify Jesus’ mercy
DAY 8 (Easter Friday) – The souls who are detained in purgatory

The Hour of Mercy
“‘I remind you, My daughter, that as often as you hear the clock strike the third hour, immerse yourself completely in My mercy, adoring and glorifying it; invoke its omnipotence for the whole world, and particularly for poor sinners; for at that moment mercy was open wide for every soul. In this hour you can obtain everything for yourself and for others for the asking; it was the hour of grace for the whole world – mercy triumphed over justice.” ( Diary, 1572)
The Image of Divine Mercy
This image is a powerful gift to us to recall in our mind the gift of how much the Lord loves us.
“Paint an image according to the pattern you see, with the signature: Jesus, I trust in You. I promise that the soul that will venerate this image will not perish. I also promise victory over [its] enemies already here on earth, especially at the hour of death. I Myself will defend it as My own glory” (Diary, 47, 48). “I desire that this image be venerated, first in your chapel, and [then] throughout the world” (47).
The Chaplet of Divine Mercy
“My daughter, encourage souls to say the chaplet which I have given to you. It pleases Me to grant everything they ask of Me by saying the chaplet. … Write that when they say this chaplet in the presence of the dying, I will stand between My Father and the dying person, not as the just Judge but as the merciful Savior (Diary, 1541).
“At the hour of their death, I defend as My own glory every soul that will say this chaplet; or when others say it for a dying person, the indulgence is the same” (Diary, 811).

The Link Between Divine Mercy and the Works of Mercy
“I am giving you three ways of exercising mercy toward your neighbor:
the first — by deed, the second — by word, the third — by prayer. In these three degrees is contained the fullness of mercy, and it is an unquestionable proof of love for Me. By this means a soul glorifies and pays reverence to My mercy. Many souls … are often worried because they do not have the material means with which to carry out an act of mercy. Yet spiritual mercy, which requires neither permissions nor storehouses, is much more meritorious and is within the grasp of every soul. If a soul does not exercise mercy somehow or other, it will not obtain My mercy on the day of judgment. Oh, if only souls knew how to gather eternal treasure for themselves, they would not be judged, for they would forestall My judgment with their mercy” (1317).
Also, our Lord wants us to perform Acts of Mercy:
“Yes, the first Sunday after Easter is the Feast of Mercy, but there must also be acts of mercy” (742).
